Taking healthcare services away from institutions and delivering them directly to the community. Observing parents and carers interacting with their child and providing them with the help and advice they need, promoting early intervention and teaching appropriate techniques specific for the individual family and child.
Medical, Therapy and Nutritional Support
We offer all aspects of therapy for our children including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. The parents are trained in simple therapy techniques of handling, exercise, positioning, feeding and care for their children.
Vocational Skills Training
In August 2010 we started a special class for some of our older children where they are taught different skills such as crafts, paper mache and other life skills to help them lead independent lives.
Special Needs School
The school aims to serve children with mental and/or physical disabilities who are not eligible for regular education. The goal is to meet each child at his or her level and to help them improve skills. There are two classes within the school. The morning class serves students on academic track and the afternoon class serves the more severely disabled children who are currently learning communication and self help skills.
We are currently working in Luwero and Nkokonjeru and are partnering with a number of organizations and projects to further the cause of children with special needs.
Our centre is open four days a week from 9am to 4pm, for the parents and carers to come with their children to use all the available facilities.
No child is turned away as there is always room for one more!
Income Generating Activities
We support our families with small interest free loans to start up and run their own businesses, such as, vegetable stalls, chicken and piggery projects and farming projects. We also have trainings for parents in tailoring, crafts, candle and soap making and briquette making to improve their livelihoods, enabling them to support their families.
